Brinkman Photography has been in business since 1990. After graduating from Illinois State University Jennifer moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked for various commercial photographers. In the last eight years, her love of people has been the focus of her work, with an emphasis on children and animals as subjects.

As a teacher at two Portland-area colleges, Mt Hood Community College and PNCA (Pacific Northwest College of Art) Jennifer’s diverse portfolio has inspired beginners to create the world in fresh ways through the photographer’s lens.

Jennifer is actively involved in American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP). She has participated in several events the group has coordinated. In 2001, Jennifer was responsible for organizing, curating, and promoting an ASMP event that showcased member’s works. Currently, she is serving as treasurer for the Oregon Chapter of ASMP.

When not photographing for commercial clients, Jennifer is an active volunteeer. Since 1999, she has been involved with b.i.k.e. (bicycling and ideas for kids empowerment), a group dedicated to inner city youth at risk. The volunteers cycle with the kids on Saturdays, teach them how to race, as well as host events and camps for the children. Jennifer photographs these events and mentors children.

In 1999, Jennifer taught urban kids photography through the program, Straight Shooting, in Portland, Oregon. She and the children took field trips to photograph places throughout the city. She also taught the kids how to develop film and print in the darkroom. This carried on from her experience in Chicago, where she mentored urban kids through Picture This Projects from 1995 to 1998. The impact of both of these projects was to help the kids see the world through their own eyes from behind the camera, as well as teaching them skills in developing film, and printing in the darkroom. Picture This Projects participated in a fundraiser sponsored by gallery 312 for three years. The children’s work was exhibited and the kids earned money for the images sold during the event. Jennifer served on the board of directors for two years.

She has been an active member of the Great Vow Zen Monastery in Clatskanie, Oregon since 1998. Jennifer has done design and photographic work for their brochures, website, flyers, pamphlets and catalogs.
